Make Your Own Edible Soil

Make your own edible soil for a fun way to learn about how soil works. Dig deep and see how the different layers of soil come together.

Ingredients

  • Clear Cup
  • Baggie
  • Oreos
  • Graham Crackers
  • Chocolate Chips and/or Butterscotch Chips
  • Chocolate Pudding
  • Gummy Worms

Instructions

  1. In the clear cup, put the chocolate chips and the butterscotch chips on the bottom. This is the bedrock layer.

  2. Next, place some of the chocolate pudding on top of the bedrock. This is the subsoil layer.

  3. Then, crush the Oreos and graham crackers in the baggie. This is the topsoil.  Layer the mixture on top of the pudding.

  4. Place a few gummy worms in the soil. These are the earthworms that provide nutrients to the plants.

You now have a nice (and yummy!) look at how soil is layered.  Dig in!
